TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Toll road operator Astra Infra recorded three areas in Tangerang-Merak toll road prone to congestion during Eid homecoming or mudik season this year, said the technical and operation director of PT Mandalasakti, Rinaldi, in Menara Astra, Jakarta, Monday, May 20.
Rinaldi explained the traffic density is predicted to occur at Merak tollgate heading to Merak Port, on D-5 until D+3 of Eid al-Fitr.
If the congestion occurs in Merak port, the corporate will divert vehicles to enter the rest area 43 and 68 A on Jalan Cikuasa or to Cilegon Barat tollgate. While if vehicles flock Merak tollgate, they will be diverted to Cilegon Barat or Cilegon Timur toll gate.
“Or we may apply one-way traffic policy,” he added.

Cilegon Timur and Cilegon Barat are also prone to congestion as people heading to tourism sites Anyer - Carita during the long holiday on the D-day until D+3 of Eid al-Fitr.
The third area susceptible to traffic jam is Serang Timur tollgate as tourism route towards Serang - Pandeglang - Rangkasbitung on the D-day until D+3 of Eid. The density will be unraveled to Serang Barat tollgate.
In general, the toll road operator predicted an increase in vehicle traffic starting D-7 until D+7 of Eid al-Fitr by 15.69 percent. On the peak traffic on D-5, as many as 173,900 vehicles are projected to pass Tangerang-Merak toll, 19.3-percent higher than that of the normal daily average.
