TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PLN's Distribution Unit for Greater Jakarta (PT PLN Disjaya) will build high-tech electric vehicle charging stations—known as SPLU—in the capital. The SPLU, which has fast and superfast charging capabilities, will serve the needs of public transportation running on electricity, including the Transjakarta bus.
"We have talked to PT Transjakarta. We are now waiting for them to tell us how many stations they need," PLN Disjaya communications manager Dita Artsana told Tempo yesterday, May 9.
The Jakarta government and PT Transjakarta plans to hold a test-run for the BYD Company electric buses made by China as well as buses made by local company PT Mobil Anak Bangsa (MAB).
The test is scheduled to take place in July.
In addition to obtaining permits, the operation of these buses requires infrastructure. One of them is the availability of charging stations in bus depots and travel routes.
According to Dita, PLN Jakarta will soon install the required electric connections to the charging machines. The machines will add to the number of normal-capacity SPLUs that are now available in 1,918 locations in Jakarta.
