5.7 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Banggai, Central Sulawesi

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A tectonic earthquake with magnitude 5.7 jolted Banggai Islands, Central Sulawesi today morning, April 26, 2019. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded the tremor occurred at 04:57 Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
The quake epicenter was located in 1.91 degrees south latitude and 122.48 degrees east longitude or in the sea at 90 kilometers southwest Banggai Islands, at a depth of 10 kilometers. No potential tsunami issued.
According to BMKG shakemap, the tremor was felt at III MMI level in Morowali, while in Sorowako at II MMI level.
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) contacted its regional branch BPBD from which the report said that the strong quake lasted for 3 seconds and caused people to panic and flee from their houses and buildings.
No immediate report of casualty or damage due to the quake.
