TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X said that the “people power” movement echoed by National Mandate Party (PAN) senior politician Amien Rais is unnecessary.
“[We] don’t need things like people power,” said Sri Sultan after voting in Yogyakarta today.
He further argued that there is no reason for anyone to accuse the election to be faulty if it is held fairly and transparent according to core principles of democracy.

Sultan criticized back at Amien Rais who is a former People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker, and his reasons on publically calling for a mass mobilization during Indonesia’s election.
“Public officials or former state officials should not be taught with movements such as people power. It’s just unreasonable,” said Sri Sultan who called Amien to spread positive vibes instead.
Asked whether a mass mobilization to overthrow the government will ever come in this 2019 general elections, Sri Sultan firmly said, ”There will be none of that,” especially in Yogyakarta.
