Jokowi Congratulates Go-Jek as Indonesia's First Decacorn

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo congratulated the ride-hailing app Go-Jek for its success as Indonesia’s first decacorn. The President conveyed his compliment during an event titled Mitra Juara Go-Jek 2019 (Gojek Champion Partner 2019) on Thursday, April 11.
“First, I would like to congratulate GoJek that CB Insights named it as the first decacorn in Indonesia with a valuation over US$10 billion,” Jokowi said.
The former Solo Mayor said that the digital economy has brought hope for the country’s economic growth because the tech platform contributed US$27 billion in 2018 alone. “That’s a really huge figure,” he added.
According to the president, the digital economy also encouraged new opportunities for the public. For example, many micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia highly developed due to the connection of online and offline ecosystem.
“GoJek cannot reach this position without support from its partners of MSMEs, drivers, and millions of workers behind the production of our MSMEs,” he added.
The President then appealed to all millennials to be aware of and follow the technology development and warned them to not stuck in old technology. “Collaborate digital and creative technology so it will produce business valuation up to thousands of billions rupiah,” he underlined.
“This is the time for Indonesian startup to scale up to the regional and global level. Go-Jek has already done this,” Jokowi concluded.
