Election Ballot Foul Play Case to be Solved in 2 Days, KPU Says

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Elections Commission (KPU) is aiming to complete the investigation on the punctured voting ballots in Malaysia within two days. The KPU commissioner Hasyim Asy’ari said that the deadline was set in consideration to the voting day in the neighboring country on April 14, 2019.
“This finding will be completed with a final conclusion, then the Bawaslu (Election Supervisory Board) will give a recommendation as soon as possible before April 14,” said Hasyim in a press conference in the Bawaslu office, Thursday, April 11.
Hasyim pledged a deadline for the KPU and Bawaslu to make a decision was on April 13.
The KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan said his agency had discussed the foul play in a plenary meeting which concluded the assignment of two commissioners Hasyim Asyari and Ilham Saputra to investigate the case.
“Inshaallah, we will inform the case tomorrow (Friday). Tonight (Thursday), they will arrive in Malaysia, and announce it on Friday morning,” said Wahyu in the KPU office, Thursday, April 11.
The KPU, Wahyu went on, could not yet respond to the request made by the Bawaslu member Fritz Edward Siregar to stop the 2019 Indonesia elections in Malaysia as no formal letter issued to date.
“KPU will collect information first, will ask for clarification, to get accurate and reliable information,” Wahyu concluded.
