TEMPO.CO, Toba Samosir - Indonesia is officially named as MotoGP host in 2021. Mandalika Street Circuit in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara is set to be the location where the race will be held.
"The concept is a street circuit. But this is different with the one in Singapore that has the same concept,” said Indonesian Foreign Minister Arief Yahya on the sideline of The Kaldera - Toba Nomadic Escape launching in Toba Samosir Thursday, April 4.
Arief explained that one of the differences between Mandalika and Singapore circuits is the construction process. In Singapore, the circuit was set on the existed road while Mandalika is originally designed as a circuit and road at the same time.
Therefore, Mandalika is expected to become a more prepared circuit in hosting the MotoGP. In addition, with its size measuring 1,200 hectares, a lot of facilities can be built on Mandalika Circuit area.
Minister Arief said MotoGP organizer, Dorna, had confirmed that Indonesia to host MotoGP starting 2021.
The management has started the promotion of MotoGP event in Indonesia, among others, through its official Instagram account @motogp, where Mandalika Circuit was displayed in a 3-D video.
Mandalika circuit will have a length of 4.31 kilometers with 18 curves. The circuit with more than 13,000 seat capacity is located by the coastline and surrounded by mountains.
