TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In opening the truck drivers’ safety declaration at Tanjung Priok port, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo recalled his late father’s profession as a truck and bus driver, who he considers being a noble profession.
“Ask residents of Solo. Ask them about my late father [Noto Mihardjo] who used to be a truck and bus driver,” said Jokowi in his acceptance speech at Tanjung Priok Port on Sunday.
He said that his education and family was supported because of his father’s noble job; “Why am I considering it a noble profession, because from that I was able to go to school,” said the president.

Jokowi further maintained that the real world nobility of truckers are reflected by the people that heavily depend on them, especially if the trucks are meant to provide the public with necessary logistics.
“Transporting goods from one spot to another for the sake of the people, whatever it may be [they are transporting],” said Jokowi.
The truckers’ safety awareness declaration also saw Jokowi listening to the aspirations of the truckers and also providing them with messages of road-safety awareness.
