Jokowi Camp to Hold Concert before Presidential Election

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The campaign team of Joko Widodo or Jokowi is currently planning to hold an event as their strategy to boost the electability of incumbent candidate a day before the silent period on April 14-16, 2019. One of the plans is to establish a thumb salute concert, similar to the two-finger salute concert in 2014 presidential election.

“Yes, many people suggest it, but we will decide it later after considering the situation,” said the campaign team deputy head Arsul Sani Wednesday, March 13 when Tempo met at the High-End Building, Jakarta.

Based on Tempo`s investigation through a website of GBK for reservation service, http://reservation.gbk.id, the stadium had been tapped for an event ahead of the election.

The president director of the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex management center, Winarto, claimed that he was not aware of the one who booked the site. “The booking system of GBK can be done online and anyone can access the information transparently. Anyone can also book the stadium as long as meeting the applicable conditions,” Winarto told Tempo today.

Andi reiterated that the main event would effectively boost the electability of Jokowi - Ma'ruf pair ahead of the presidential election. He recalled that back in 2014, ten days before the election, the last survey revealed that voter stability had reached 87 percent.

At that time, he added, an internal survey showed that Jokowi gained 46 percent electability, while Prabowo’s was slightly up at 48 percent. “So we made a strategy to turn the condition around, including the two-finger salute concert. And Jokowi wins,” Andi said.
