TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice-presidential hopeful Sandiaga Uno said he would be hesitant to attack Ma’ruf Amin during the third presidential debate as the latter was a senior ulema.

“Of course I will be hesitant,” he said in South Jakarta on Monday, March 11, 2019.

Sandiaga said although he would try to be himself during the debate he would not turn it into a verbal row. “But rather show the different sides of the candidates to help the people make a firm decision,” he said.

Earlier, Ma’ruf Amin called on Sandiaga not to hold back during the presidential debate. Ma’ruf also lauded Sandiaga’s statement that he would not attack an ulema.

Ma’rufargued thatbeingaggressive in a debate was understandable as long as it was related to eachcandidate’sideasandprograms.

“What’s important is that it is done courteously and politely. Not only for Pak Sandiaga, but also myself, the elder one should also be respectful to the younger generation,” said Ma’ruf Amin.
