TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The deputy secretary-general of Democrat Party, Rachland Nashidik, said that Andi Arief would resign from his position as the party’s central board (DPP) committee and deputy secretary-general.
The resignation, Rachland added, was conveyed through a letter. “I will deliver it soon to the chairman (Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono). There will be a mechanism to determine this proposal,” said Rachland today, March 5, after meeting Andi Arief in the National Police’s narcotics crime unit directorate in Cawang, East Jakarta.

Rachland said that the drug abuse case implicating his colleague was a personal matter and assured Democrat Party did not have any relation to the case. When asked about the reason for Andi’s resignation, Rachland remained tight-lipped.
The National Police arrested Andi Arief at Peninsula Hotel in West Jakarta Sunday, March 3, on drug charges. The Democrat politician tested positive for crystal meth. However, the police have not yet named him as a suspect.
