TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry will officially attempt to reduce flight prices or airfare mid-February.
“Yes, we’ll attempt to realize it this week,” said Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi at the presidential palace complex in Jakarta today, Feb. 13.
The Minister plans to hold a meeting with airline companies which include the state-run carrier Garuda Indonesia upon composing a tariff that is accessible for members of the public.

The Ministry revealed that airfares early in 2019 increased around 10-20 percent compared to that in 2018. “It increased 10-20 percent, but it involves corporations, we are not allowed to intervene. Let them calculate it themselves,” said the Minister.
In terms of avtur prices, he said that this type of jet fuel contributes 25-40 percent to the actual flight tariff. The Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Chairman Haryadi Sukamdani said earlier that the performance of the country’s tourism is hampered by the issue of airfare hike.
