Same Terror Network Believed to be Behind Attacks on KPK

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) employee’s association (wadah pegawai or WP) suspects that the terrors aimed at the organization’s chairman and deputy chairman were linked to past terrors made against the KPK.

“The terror on the leaders today is just another one from the series of terrors made against KPK officials and employees in the past that have yet been solved,” said KPK WP chairman Yudi Purnomo at his office on Wednesday, January 9.

Both KPK leaders, Chairman Agus Rahardjo and Deputy Chairman Laode M. Syarif found their houses being targeted by unknown assailants on Wednesday. The string of terrors first commenced at Laode’s house where a Molotov cocktail was thrown while Agus’ house saw an object similar to a pipe bomb placed at the front yard.

Yudi further explained that the terror attempts are strongly related to old cases that always involve two assailants. This also happened at the acid attack against senior investigator Novel Baswedan in 2017 and another attack against investigator Afief Yulian Miftach back in 2015.

“It led us to temporarily conclude that this is the work of the same individual under the same network, but they continue to conduct their terror against KPK investigators since cases never get solved,” said Yudi.
