Jokowi: Disaster Management Curriculum Introduced This Month

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has touched on the urgent need to implement correct spatial planning across beach line areas in Indonesia in order to suppress the possible casualties when the areas are hit by natural disasters.
“We are not just talking about now, not just five years ahead or ten years, but we’re talking about 50 years ahead,” said the president after monitoring the tsunami-stricken areas in the South Lampung regency on Wednesday, January 2.

He highlighted the importance of disaster mitigation plans to improve people’s awareness. The president announced the government was set to introduce a disaster management curriculum both for school students and the general public.
Jokowi explained the curriculum would be introduced at schools and among the general public as soon as January, especially to those living in regions prone to natural disasters.
