Palu Earthquake Victims in Need of Clean Water

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Victims of the devastating earthquake and land liquefaction in South Palu, Central Sulawesi, are currently in desperate need of clean water.
Local community leader Abd Naim said Wednesday that refugees were finding it difficult to obtain clean water for daily hygiene and consumption. He revealed that his region did not get clean water supplies as it used to from water tank trucks.
“It’s been an ongoing thing for more than three months up until now,” said Abd Naim.

The liquefaction disaster in Petobo has affected 1,642 families, which account for roughly 3,800 refugees that are taking refuge on Jalan Jepang, which is located directly across the area where the liquefaction occurred.
Abd Naim explained the locals even had to dig as deep as 50-100 meters to obtain groundwater, while others traveled to a housing complex 500-meter from the refugee camp.
