TEMPO.CO, Bogor - Bogor Police closes the Puncak route on 2019 New Year’s Eve specifically for four-wheeled (or more) vehicles. The road closure starts at 6 pm on Monday, December 31, until Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at 6 am.
“As [it was done] in previous years, we will close the Puncak route on New Year's Eve,” said Bogor Police spokesperson First Inspector Vino Lestari.
Vino said the road closure would be done to anticipate congestion. In addition, tonight, there will also be a Tabligh Akbar event at the At-Tawaaun Mosque, which will be attended by hundreds of people.
“So we appeal to the people who want to go to Puncak to use alternative routes,” Vino said.
The first alternative route that can be passed is Cibubur-Cianjur (via Jonggol) with 86.1 km distance and 2 hours 45 minutes travel time. Another alternative route is through Ciawi-Cianjur via Sukabumi. “The distance is 80.1 km, with a travel time of three hours,” said Vino.
The police officer added the road closure of the Puncak route every New Year’s Eve is quite effective in preventing congestion.
On 2019 New Year’s Eve, the Bogor Police deployed 250 personnel stationed along the Puncak route to manage traffic flow, especially at crucial points.
Based on the records, at the Ciawi Toll Gate, the number of vehicles exiting and heading to Puncak and the surrounding areas on December 30, totaled at 32,529 vehicles, while those entering Jakarta were 29,063 vehicles.
