TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The acting Governor of Aceh, Nova Iriansyah, said the Aceh Tsunami occurred 14 years ago. “The tsunami is a reminder that humans are small and helpless before God,” Nova said during a speech at the 14th commemoration of the Aceh Tsunami, at the Peukan Bada Mosque, Aceh Besar, December 26.
Nova said the tsunami commemoration was an important moment. “Building people's alertness in dealing with natural phenomena and the dynamics of nature. The grief may still remain. But we are determined to get up and look at tomorrow better,” he said.
Nova also expressed deep sorrow for the disaster in Banten and South Lampung, which were affected by the Sunda Strait Tsunami. He said the same grief had also been felt by the people of Aceh.

The Community Representative from the Japanese Art Community, Kadowaki Asusi, said the disaster commemoration is important so that humans increase alertness for disasters.
“The city where I live is exactly like Aceh and mitigation is very important,” he said.
His presence in Aceh, said Asusi, is to share experiences with disasters. He is also determined to introduce Aceh to the world, as a former tsunami area that has risen.
The 14th commemoration of the Aceh Tsunami which was located on the Peukan Bada Mosque was attended by five thousand people, accompanied by dhikr and prayers and tausiah delivered by Ustad Abdul Somad.
