TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Survey Circle (LSI) Denny JA announced that the mass-event 212 reunion (Reuni 212) has not significantly affected the electability of presidential and vice presidential candidates running in the 2019 election.
LSI found that the public calling for a Sharia state and presidential change from Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Shihab were not adhered by the majority of voters that support the 212 reunion community.
“What does this mean? The public cries were not viewed as a voting reference by the majority of Muslims,” said researcher Adjie Alfaraby in LSI’s press conference on Wednesday.

LSI Denny JA conducted the survey from December 5 to 12 which involved 1,200 respondents. With a 2.8 percent margin of error, they found that 58.5 percent of respondents were aware of the 212 reunion, while 38.0 percent were not aware of such an event. Only 3.5 percent did not answer.
As much as 54.5 percent of respondents who were aware of the Reuni 212 event said that they sympathize to the event while 26.0 percent did not, and 19.5 percent did not provide an answer.
According to Adjie, out of the respondents that support the 212 reunion, only 12.8 percent agree with Rizieq Shihab on transforming Indonesia into a Sharia state. However, 83.2 percent refused Rizieq Shihab's calls and prefers the Pancasila as a state ideology.
The same can be said for Rizieq Shihab’s call for a change of presidency, 43.6 percent of 212 reunion (Reuni 212) sympathizers prefer Joko “Jokowi” Widodo – Ma’ruf Amin while 40.7 percent prefers Prabowo Subianto – Sandiaga Uno.
