Jokowi Buys Rp500,000 Batik Shirt

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi visited the souvenir booth before going to the Mamba’ul Ma’arif Denanyar Islamic Boarding School, Jombang, East Java, on Tuesday, December 18.

When Jokowi looked at the items at the booth, Yani, the dress tailor, stated her desire to give a long-sleeved batik shirt that she had sewn, to the President Jokowi.

“I want to give it as a souvenir, but it is not allowed. So he bought it,” Yani said when met on Tuesday, December 18.

Yani finally sold the blue and yellow Jombang-style batik shirt for Rp500,000. Yani is a micro, small and medium business actor that has access to capital provision from a Micro Waqf Bank.

Last Tuesday, Jokowi inaugurated three micro waqf banks in that boarding school. Micro Waqf Bank offers capital loans with a collateral-free financing scheme with a maximum value of Rp3 million and profit sharing margins equal to 3 percent. Through this scheme, the banks also provide entrepreneurship training and assistance as well as financing patterns made per group or joint responsibility.

This institution is not permitted to take deposits from the community because it focuses on community empowerment through financing accompanied by business assistance. This institution is also a Sharia Microfinance Institution that is licensed and supervised by the Financial Services Authority (OJK).
