SOE Minister Approves NTT to Build Regional Electricity Company

TEMPO.CO, Kupang - Governor of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat said that Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Rini Soemarno had agreed to the plan of his office to build the regional electricity company.
“I have received the WA (WhatsApp) message from Minister Rini who approved us to build the electricity company in our region,” the NTT Governor said in Kupang on Friday, December 14, adding that this was an extraordinary breakthrough.
Viktor believed that NTT would become the region that has enough energy and that it could manage the energy for industrial purposes. “I hope this [electricity company] will grow because there is still a lot of empty space,” he said.
Viktor said that the low number of electrification in NTT is not only a problem for the central government but a problem for all communities in the region.
To fulfill the need of power, said Viktor, they cannot only rely on the state-owned electricity company (PLN) due to the company's budget and resource limitations.
Viktor said the electricity company would be built in every region by utilizing regional expenditure budget (APBD).
“By establishing electricity companies in each district, the electrification in NTT can 100% be achieved,” he said.
