Police Team Up with Online 'Ojek' to Stage Anti-Hoax Campaign

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Jakarta Police's Traffic Unit (Satlantas) are launching a campaign to combat hate speech and hoaxes in tandem with online motorcycle taxi drivers, otherwise known as ojek, at Gambir Station on Friday, September 28.

“The Satlantas of Central Jakarta held a campaign against hoaxes with online ojek and the local community,” said the Central Jakarta Police's Satlantas head Adj. Sr. Comr. Juang Andi Priyanto.

In the campaign, online ojek drivers and a number of people from the local community carried banners that read, “I am Indonesia, I am Anti-hoax, #Indonesiadamai (#PeaceforIndonesia)”.

Perpetrators who spread hoaxes or fake news can be charged with the Law of Information and Electronic Transaction/ITE.

The campaign is aimed at making the 2018 Asian Para Games, which will be held from October 6-13 at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium in Senayan, Jakarta, a success. The campaign also seeks to fight hoaxes ahead of the 2019 presidential race and legislative elections.
