TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A senior investigator in the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Novel Baswedan would back to work on Friday, July 27, after resting for 16 months due to the acid attack.

“KPK has a good news that Novel will start to work on Friday, July 27, 2018,” said KPK’s Employment Union chairman Yudi Purnomo in a written statement, Tuesday, July 24.

As reports said, two unidentified men splashed acid to Novel on April 11, 2017, and severely damaged his eyes and he almost got blind. Novel Baswedan had undergone multiple eye operations to recover his sight. The last treatment took place in Singapore.

Yudi said based on diagnosis result, Novel’s left eye was 100 percent damaged while the right was 50 percent damaged.

Yudi hoped Novel's return in KPK would boost the spirit in stemming corruption in Indonesia despite he could not work optimally considering his condition. “Novel's return is an additional power for KPK employees who are longing his action,” he added.

He said KPK Employment Union demanded the police reveal the attack case involving Novel Baswedan. He further pinned hope President Joko `Jokowi` Widodo willing to establish Fact Finding Joint Team (TGPF). “We never lose hope that the President wants to form TGPF,” Yudi underlined.
