TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian state-owned electricity company PLN estimated that the power plant projects in South and Central Sulawesi which were recently introduced by President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo can create 5,400 domestic jobs.

“This can surely create an impactfull multiplier effect for society. The Sidrap windmills for example, it can create 1,150 jobs for its construction and when it’s operable,” said PLN President Director Sofyan Basir at Sidenreng Rappang (Sidrap) in South Sulawesi today.

Sofyan further explained that the construction of the six power plants have involved the help of 5,400 domestic workers. He added that what is important is the operable power plants can produce a combined 545 megawatt, which is hoped to be more than enough to power the electricity in Sulawesi.

As previously reported, President Jokowi officially introduced six power plant projects in the South and Central Sulawesi region. Among others that are fully operational are the Sidrap wind-powered power plant, the Punagaya coal-run power plant (PLTU), and the IPP Jeneponto Expansion PLTU.

The President Jokowi’s newly introduced six power plant projects are part of a government program that intends to provide 35,000 megawatts of electricity power that was initiated in 2015.
