TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President of the Labor Party Said Iqbal said that his party will prepare a national strike as a form of rejection against the recent enactment of the Government Regulation in Lieu of Law No. 2 of 2022 concerning Job Creation to become the Job Creation Law.
"National strike, stop production, so all production stop," Said stated in a virtual press conference on Tuesday, March 21, 2023.
Said added that he will also encourage port laborers and public minibus drivers to take part in the action to fight against the Job Creation Law.
According to Said, the national strike will mobilize 5 million laborers from 100,000 factories, who came from various trade unions.
Laborers located in the Jabodetabek area, Said explained, will leave their respective factories and go to the State Palace and the House of Representatives. Meanwhile, laborers in other regions will target governmental offices or conduct strikes at the factory gates.
The national strike is planned to take place between July and August 2023. "Because we respect the holy month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, so it will be on July-August while we prepare for the national strike, judicial review to the Constitutional Court will also be conducted, Said explained.
