West Jakarta Crime Rate Drops 23 Percent

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The West Jakarta Police said that the crime rate in West Jakarta area has declined compared to last year.


"The crime index is down 23 percent," West Jakarta Metro Police Chief Comr. Hengki Haryadi said on Friday, December 29.


This year, Hengki said, the police recorded 1,511 criminal cases, which is much less than 2016's cases that amounted to 1,969.

According to Hengki, nearing the end of the year, the police force carried out an anti-thug operation, during which 326 people were captured and 70 arrested.


During the operation, the police seized a number of evidence including sharp weapons, firearms and soft guns, six motorcycles, and 9-mm bullets, among others.


Overall, Hengki said, 647 thugs had been captured during raids this year. A total of 119 are now detained for having proven guilty of committing crimes, while 528 are given counseling and coaching.
