TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police discovered that there has been a rise in the number of criminal activities in Jakarta. The finding was based on the analysis and evaluation of a police operation that had just ended on Wednesday, December 27, entitled the “Operasi Lilin Jaya.”
“Criminal activities increased from 13 to 16 cases, which is 23 percent,” said Jakarta Metro Police Spokesman Commissioner Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono on Thursday, December 28.

Disturbance towards the public’s security and public order has also increased compared to last year’s data. Criminal cases increased from 41 cases in 2016 to 66 cases in 2017. “It is a 61 percent increase.”
This trend can also be felt in some police headquarters throughout Jakarta greater area (Jabodetabek). North Jakarta experienced an 80 percent increase, while North Jakarta increased 133 percent from three cases to seven cases.
West Jakarta and East Jakarta experienced an equal increase in criminal activity, from four cases in 2016 to five cases this year. Argo stated that several locations need to be closely guarded such as religious places, recreational spots, shopping centers, and other crowd points.
