TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry will impose a sanction against a pilot of budget carrier Lion Air who has tested positive for drugs. Ministry’s air transportation director general Agus Santoso said that the sanction refers to the Civil Aviation Safety Regulation (PKPS).
“First, the pilot will be grounded starting from the arrest until the test results are published by the authorities,” Agus said in a written statement received today by Tempo.
Earlier, the East Nusa Tenggara chapter of the National Nartoctis Agency and Kupang Police on Monday apprehended a Lion Air pilot for using crystal meth in a hotel room.
Authorities confiscated 0.3 g of crystal meth, a bong with a glass pipette, 2 cricket lighters and 4 straws. The pilot was later taken to the Kupang police headquarters and ended up testing positive for crystal meth.
Agus said that his office will continuously monitor drug cases and conduct ramp checks ahead of Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
