TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - South Jakarta Police Chief Sr. Comr. Iwan Kurniawan asserted that the suspect naming of Dewa 19 lead singer Ahmad Dhani had gone through a long, painstaking investigation that was commenced in March.

“We named Ahmad Dhani as a suspect after we obtained enough evidence,” said Iwan on Sunday, December 3.

On November 23, Iwan said, the police conducted a case presentation on Ahmad Dhani’s alleged hate speech via his Twitter account @AHMADDHANIPRAST during the second round of Jakarta’s Gubernatorial Election. Ahmad Dhani was reported to the police on Thursday, March 9, by Jack Lapian, the founder of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (BTP) Network.

Ahmad Dhani tweeted, “The blasphemy was conducted by Ahok… [but] KH. Ma’aruf Amin was the one being prosecuted… ADP,”

After Ahmad Dhani was questioned as a suspect, police then searched his house and found a mobile SIM card that was allegedly used by Ahmad Dhani to share his tweet.
