TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo finally responded to Ahmad Dhani’s alleged insult towards him. He said that the case would need to be followed-up.
“(It) needs to be followed-up under the existing rule of law,” said the President on Tuesday, November 8, 2016.
Jokowi said that he once delivered a statement in a police briefing concerning hate speech and provocation, just like what happened to Ahmad Dhani. According to the President, if the hate speech and provocation are addressed to state symbols, it should be investigated further.
Ahmad Dhani was dragged into the matter due to his statement during his participation in the November 4 protest in front of the Presidential Palace. In the rally, which demanded the inactive Jakarta Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama to be legally processed in the case of an alleged religion defamation, Ahmad Dhani resorted to profanity when criticizing President Jokowi.
In a number of video recordings on the incident, Dhani was caught iterating two profane words addressed to the President. The video was uploaded to Youtube and has since circulated in social media.
