PLN Looks at Gas Storage Facility Offer from Singapore

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iwan Supangkat, director of strategic procurement at state-owned power company PLN, met with Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan over an offer from the Singaporean Government to provide gas storage facilities.
“Singapore is close to Tanjung Pinang,” Iwan told journalists in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 5.
Iwan explained Singapore has gas storage facilities located at small jetties. He added that PLN can send small vessels to transport gas.
According to Iwan, the offer is still being discussed. In addition, he could not confirm yet whether there would be a similar gas storage facility built in Tanjung Pinang.
Iwan revealed that the company is planning on optimizing the utilization of regasification facilities, in addition to building storage facilities.
“They [Singapore] has mini vessels to transport Liquefied Natural Gas. [To generate] 100 mega[watt] of power, we need only 20 MMBTU,” he said.
Iwan added that PLN is planning on building the gas storage facilities in Natuna and Tanjung Pinang that already have a 240-megawatt worth of power plants.
