TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A protest will be staged over the plight of the Rohingya people at Borobudur Temple, the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Central Java chapter confirmed.

“The information is true. People have been claiming [to be the initiator of the rally]; let them be. The FPI will only be discussing the issue at a meeting of Central Java executive board tonight,” FPI Central Java chairman Suyadi told Tempo today.

Tempo understands that the so-called ‘Act to Defend the Rohingya’ at Borobudur Temple has been planned via WhatsApp groups since yesterday. A message says that 107 organizations in Central Java and Yogyakarta will be joining the rally. That includes Islamic organizations in Klaten District and the FPI.

Suyadi said that the FPI may join the rally depending on the meeting on Monday evening.

The Borobudur Temple administrator Achmad Muchlis did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the rally over the plight of the Rohingya people.
