TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Around 207 years ago, on July 20 of 1810, the Republic of Colombia proclaimed its independence from the Spanish colony. From that moment until then, Colombia celebrates this date as one of the most significant events of its history.
In commemoration of the anniversary of the Cry of Independence of the country, the Embassy of Colombia in Indonesia joins this celebration with two concerts of vallenato music by the Colombian artist Eibar Gutierrez. The first will be held on July 20 at Gedung Kesenian Jakarta Theater and will be aimed to the Indonesian authorities, the accredited diplomatic community and the Colombian community living in Jakarta. The second will be open to the public and will take place on July 23 at Grand Indonesia Shopping Center.
Vallenato is a musical genre that was recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, because it represents the three main cultural influences of the country; the European, which is embodied by the instrument of “accordion”, the indigenous, by the “guacharaca” and the African by the “vallenata box”. Éibar Gutiérrez, known as the "Juglar Urbano" or "Urban Musician" was born in Valledupar, Province of Cesar, home of the most outstanding vallenato musicians in Colombia.
In addition to his long musical career, Eibar has been the protagonist of several television productions of the country, where he exposes his music and represents the musical history of this musical genre. Moreover, Eibar stands out for its social sensitivity because he has supported projects like "More Arts Fewer Mines" of UNICEF and the project "Sing with Me for the Reintegration" of the Vice-Presidency of Colombia.
