From November 17 to 26, 2023, the Festival of French Cinema (FSP) returns for its 25th edition! With more than 4,000 viewers in 2022, FSP returns in a hybrid format in collaboration with streaming platform Klik Film and distributor Cinema XXI.
Since its formation in 1996, the French Cinema Festival (FSP) has been organized by the French Indonesian Embassy and the Indonesian Institute français spread across many cities in Indonesia, where every year it gathers thousands of spectators. With more than 4,000 viewers in 2022, FSP returns in a hybrid format in collaboration with streaming platform Klik Film and distributor Cinema XXI.
A total of more than twenty films will be screened in cinemas in 14 cities in Indonesia. Meanwhile, from November 20 to 26, 2023, ten films will be available to stream for free on the Klik Film platform. The festival highlights the diversity and creativity of French cinema. In addition to film screenings, there will be workshops, discussions, masterclasses and more. All programs can be accessed for free and the films are accompanied by subtitles in English and Indonesian.
This year, the festival focuses on the theme of the “Palme d’Or,” one of the most prestigious film awards in the world. The award is given annually by the jury of the Cannes Film Festival and is a symbol of excellence, giving the awarded films world fame. Our selection of films that were awarded at the Cannes Film Festival or other major festivals in Europe, as well as a special selection devoted to French “genre films”, will be presented during the 25th edition of the FSP, which aims to celebrate the power, ambition and the diversity of directorial forms that make French cinema shine.
The festival will open on November 17, 2023 with the Indonesian premiere of the film “Animal Kingdom” (2023), which was also presented at this year's Cannes Film Festival, in the presence of director Thomas Cailley and actor Paul Kircher at the Djakarta Theater XXI in Jakarta. This event will also take place simultaneously in Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Bandung, Medan, Makassar and Bali. The festival will close with the premiere of the film "The Three Musketeers: D'Artagnan" (2023) in Indonesia on November 26 2023 in the same seven cities.
The festival will not only highlight film screenings, but will also hold creative talks and workshops guided by French and Indonesian professionals in the film industry. In addition to Thomas Cailley and Paul Kircher, the directors of “Zero Fuck Given” (2021), Julie Lecoustre and Emmanuel Marre, as well as the actors-dancers from Cédric Klapisch's latest film “Rise” (2022), Marion Barbeau and Mehdi Baki, will be present at Indonesia to meet with Indonesian audiences, participate in discussions, and guide workshops.
Additionally, as a tribute to filmmaker Jean-Pierre Melville, a retrospective will be held to mark the 50th anniversary of his death. Films such as “Léon Morin, prêtre” (1961), “Army of Shadows” (1969), and “The Red Circle” (1970) will be screened during the festival to better understand his works and the period of the Nouvelle Vague Movement.
See you November 17 to 26, 2023 for the French Cinema Festival!
Long live cinema!
