TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) chief Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso said his personnel are ready to shot dead drug dealers.
“We will act responsibly, take measured approach,” he said on Wednesday night in Surabaya.
He has promised that the BNN will not violate human rights.
The BNN has set up a special team to crack down on drug dealers. “We are waiting for the bespoke standard firearms which will arrive in November,” he said.
Budi said that 40-odd people died every day from drug overdoses, while drug lords who are mostly living abroad remain untouched.
“The annual turnover of drug syndicates have reached Rp3.6 trillion, some Rp2.7 trillion were transfered last year from Indonesia to 11 countries, the bulk of it were transferred to China,” he said.
However, he said that his Singaporean and Malaysian counterparts, among others, have been difficult to cooperate with. “Therefore, we will use the methods which we have learned from various countries,” he said.
