President Considers Issuing Protest Note over Hajj Stampede

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said that the government would consider to send a protest note the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia following a recent stampede incident in Mina. However, Jokowi said that the government would draft the protest note after the investigation process is completed.
“[The protest note] will be drafted after [the investigation] is completed. It’s still being processed,” Jokowi said in Karawang on Sunday, September 27, 2015.
Jokowi revealed that he had not been in communication yet with King Salman Abdulazis, saying that the government would focus on victim identification. Jokowi added that the government had not found the cause of the tragedy yet. However, Jokowi asserted that he had sent Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Syaifuddin to Saudi Arabia to monitor the situation.
“The cause of the incident is still unclear,” Jokowi added.
Until Sunday morning, September 27, 2015, Jokowi revealed that he had received a report saying that 19 Indonesians died due to the tragedy, increasing from 14 based on the report that he received earlier.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia recorded that the highest number of victims was from Iran with 136 people, followed by Morocco with 87 people.
