2024 Hajj Period: Garuda Indonesia to Serve 109,000 Pilgrims

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National airliner Garuda Indonesia will fly 109,000 prospective Hajj pilgrims to the Holy Land this year. Flights will be divided into 292 flight groups. "The total number of pilgrims who will be brought is 109,000 with a sufficient composition," said Garuda Indonesia President Director Irfan Setiaputra in Tangerang, on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.
The Hajj pilgrims would be transported using 14 wide-body Boeing and Airbus aircraft. Of that number, they have been divided into 292 flight groups and will depart from nine embarkation points, namely Jakarta, Medan, Padang, Aceh, Solo, Balikpapan, Banjarmasin, Makassar, and Lombok. "We will embark on the initial flights from Jakarta and Solo starting May 12, 2024," he said.
According to Irfan, Garuda Indonesia will prioritize safe and comfortable Hajj flight services for elderly pilgrims and those who rarely or have never made long-distance flights.
"We are adding facilities for the elderly and we are providing additional wheelchairs during embarkation and additional officers to assist them get in and out of the plane," he said.
Likewise, Garuda Indonesia provided two embarkation points in Jeddah and Medina for the return of Hajj pilgrims, in accordance with the arrangements agreed with the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
To ensure services run smoothly, Garuda added 600 aircraft cabin officers assigned to serve prospective Hajj pilgrims from the elderly group. "Specifically for the Hajj service, we are adding around 600 officers, complementary to the cabin crew assigned for the Hajj pilgrimage," concluded Irfan.
