Microsoft to Fire Another 7,800 Employees

TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - American tech giant Microsoft announced plan to lay off 7,800 of its employees worldwide. The jobs are cut from the phone division as the company focuses on reorganizing and developing Windows Phone ecosystem.
In a statement as quoted by Fortune , Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that the future prospects for the Phone Hardware segment are below original expectations. Accordingly, the company concluded that an impairment adjustment of its Phone Hardware segment assets and goodwill of approximately $7.6 billion is required.
In mid 2014, Microsoft had done massive lay off impacted 18,000 of its workers worldwide. Most of these workers were originally Nokia’s employees.
Research company International Data Corporation predicts that Windows Phone will only have its hands on 3.2 percent of the market in 2015. Top position remains occupied by Android that covers 79.4 percent and followed with iOS covering 16.4 percent of the market.
