TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Oil and Gas Recommendation Team has provided the government with a recommendation to stop RON 88 fuel imports within five months.
“We have coordinated with Pertamina. They said they can do that in two months but the deadline was too tight. So we gave them five months,” Team chief Faisal Basri said on Sunday, December 21, 2014.
According to Faisal, the five-month period serves as a transition period for Pertamina to upgrade its refineries. So far, Balongan refinery is the only one that can produce RON 92 fuel, or locally known as Pertamax.
In addition, PT Trans Pacific Petrochemical Indotama (TPPI) in Tuban has completed its refinery construction that is capable of producing RON 92.
The RON 88 import stoppage, Faisal said, would have positive impacts since imports on Pertamax are more transparent than those on RON 88. The team also suggested the government to use a formula of Mean of Platts Singapore (MOPS) plus alpha to calculate subsidized fuel prices.
