TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is reluctant to talk much about the plan to increase the price of subsidized fuels, Pertalite and Solar. Although additional social assistance has started to be disbursed as a result of the shift of the fuel subsidy budget, he ensured that the planned price hike is still being studied.
“On fuel, everything is still being calculated carefully,” the President told reporters during a visit to the mining site of PT Freeport Indonesia in Tembagapura, Mimika Regency, Papua, Thursday, September 1, 2022.
No other answer is given when he was confronted again about the increase in fuel prices. “It's still being calculated with great care,” he repeated.
Recently, rumors about the increase in fuel prices went rampant. Tempo received the information that the subsidized fuel price will increase by around Rp2,000 to Rp3,000 per liter from Pertalite at Rp7,650 per liter and Solar at Rp5,150 per liter.
On August 29, Jokowi held a special meeting on fuel at the Jakarta State Palace. Yet there was no decision about the subsidized fuel price hike. He only ordered ministers to announce additional social assistance as a shift of the fuel subsidy budget totaling Rp24.17 trillion.
