TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – National Anti-Narcotics Agency (BNN) chief Anang Iskandar said he was supportive of the Research and Technology and Higher Education Ministry’s planned action to administer drug tests to all lecturers in Indonesia.
The measure came after Hasanuddin University’s vice rector Prof. Musakkir was detained by the police along with five other people for allegedly abusing crystal methamphetamine.
“It is part of BNN’s program to eradicate drugs, especially among educators and campuses,” said Anang on Tuesday. “It should be done regularly if necessary.”
Earlier, the ministry announced it would hold drug tests for all lecturers in the country.
Anang hoped the decision would help eliminate drug trafficking at campuses. “The main defense against drug trafficking is among lecturers,” he said.
However, he said the ministry had not coordinated with related institutions regarding the urine and drug tests. “We are ready to contribute in any way possible if needed,” said Anang.
