TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Central Board Chair Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok said his party will not announce the Jakarta candidate for the regional head election today.
"The schedule is for Banten, East Nusa Tenggara, and others without Jakarta, West Java, and East Java," Ahok told Tempo on Monday, August 26, 2024.
Ahok has not confirmed whether PDIP will announce Jakarta and the remaining provinces’ candidates tomorrow.
PDIP planned to announce the third wave of regional head candidates it will nominate at the regional head election this afternoon. It was previously reported that PDIP will endorse Anies Baswedan in the upcoming Jakarta gubernatorial election.
The Constitutional Court’s decision recently has opened the door for PDIP to nominate Anies Baswedan in the regional head election. Reportedly, Anies Baswedan will pair up with PDIP’s cadre as his vice gubernatorial candidate. Rano Karno, Masinton Pasaribu, and Prasetyo Edi Marsudi were among the potential partners for Anies Baswedan.
Senior PDIP politician Andreas Hugo Pareira said Anies Baswedan had been in the political party’s selection process even before the ratification of the General Elections Commission Regulation (PKPU) revision.
“(Anies Baswedan) is included in the candidates list proposed by the Regional Board to PDIP Central Board as one of the options for Jakarta gubernatorial candidates,” Andreas told Tempo on Sunday, August 25, 2024.
Andreas said the PKPU revision paved the way for the party to nominate Anies Bawedan. Andreas claimed PDIP will announce its definitive gubernatorial candidate in the next few days without giving away the exact date. "The registration period closes on August 29, so, there’s still enough time,” he said.
Previously, PDIP politician Masinton Pasaribu said his party would still nominate Anies Baswedan regardless of PKPU revision. PDIP, he said, would base the nomination on the recent Constitutional Court’s ruling.
