TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, accompanied by Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan, inspected the North Bandung Cattle Farmers Cooperative (KPSBU) in Lembang, West Bandung Regency, on Thursday, August 22, 2024.
Gibran said he would optimize milk production in the Lembang area to support the Free Nutritious Meal Program for vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, toddlers, and school children.
“We will have a free nutritious meal program. One of the vital items is milk, and we won’t import milk because I’ve observed earlier that domestic milk production is already good,” said the eldest son of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo.
Minister Zulkifli Hasan expressed the government's commitment to supporting the development of cooperatives, highlighting their potential to produce high-quality products and contribute to the national economy. “This cooperative can compete with any large companies,” the National Mandate Party (PAN) chairman added.
KPSBU Lembang is a cooperative engaged in milk production, processing, and distribution. Established in 1971, it has over 3,466 active members with a total of 18,612 cows. The cooperative's members are farmers from West Bandung Regency and Subang Regency.
During his visit, Gibran distributed milk and books to hundreds of residents in Wangunsari Village, accompanied by Minister Zulkifli Hasan and celebrities Raffi Ahmad and Jeje Govinda, who PAN would reportedly endorse in the 2024 West Bandung Regional Election. Additionally, 200 sacks of five-kilogram rice were distributed to the community.
