Ministry: Production of Fish Milk Raw Materials Has Begun Since 2017

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has announced the preparation of raw materials for the production of fish milk, a key component of the free nutritious meal program initiated by President-elect Prabowo Subianto. The ministry’s special staff, Doni Ismanto, revealed that fish protein hydrolysate (HPI) will serve as the primary raw material for fish milk production.
Doni explained that HPI production has been ongoing since 2017. “The Fish Protein Hydrolysate (HPI) product has been developed by the KKP’s Research and Development Unit since 2017. KKP collaborated with business entities to accelerate its industrial-scale production as a solution for protein independence,” he said in a written statement received by Tempo on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
Doni mentioned that an HPI factory was established in 2017. Located in Indramayu, West Java, this factory has been operational since 2021 and has a production capacity of 30 tons per month. The produced HPI can be further developed into various products, including fish milk, and as an additive to daily meals.
The KKP has plans to construct a new factory dedicated to processing raw materials for fish milk production. Doni indicated that this factory will be established in Pekalongan, Central Java, this year.
The construction of a factory specifically for producing fish milk raw materials underscores the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries' commitment to the free nutritious meal program. Doni emphasized that the factory's establishment is part of the government's efforts to reduce stunting rates in Indonesia.
“In tandem with Bappenas, we are also pursuing the development of domestic manufacturing and fabrication processes to enable the replication of this factory in various coastal areas across Indonesia, thereby promoting fisheries downstream activities and contributing to the reduction of stunting rates,” Doni remarked.
