Director General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) Nizam.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Education stressed that the government had terminated the student internship program dubbed Ferienjob in Germany on October 20, 2023. This decision was taken by the ministry after discovering indications of violations against participating students.

According to the ministry's Higher Education Service Institute website, the program failed to support students' learning process and violated their rights.

“There are numerous violations of students' rights [within the program],” the ministry’s Director General of Higher Education, Nizam, said in a written statement on October 27, 2023.

Additionally, the Ferienjob program did not meet the criteria to be part of the national program of the Independent Learning - Independent Campus (MBKM).

Nizam appealed to all universities in the archipelago to desist from participating in the Ferienjob program and refrain from sending students to it. The ministry also encouraged students to coordinate with the Indonesian Embassy in Berlin for assistance.

“Universities that have sent students to the Ferienjob program should report it via htpps://bit.ly/PendataanFerienjob,” Nizam underlined.

As reported earlier, the National Police uncovered an alleged human trafficking case under the guise of an internship program, Ferienjob, in Germany. The police have named five Indonesian nationals as suspects in the case.
