TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Bali Tourism Office Tjok Bagus Pemayun urged tourism industry players and businesses to warn tourists about the prevailing extreme weather in the province.

"Tourism stakeholders need to remind tourists to be careful not only during this season, but also the operational standard, for example, what the condition at the Uluwatu tourist attraction is like," he said on Monday.

According to him, reminding tourists of potential risks is important amid the extreme weather in the area.

Extreme weather in the form of high rainfall and strong winds has been reported in several areas in Bali. On March 13, 2024, two foreigners died after being buried in landslides in Tabanan, Bali, and some videos circulating on social media showed high waves in Bali waters.

"Tourists are usually disciplined if they are warned about (bad weather), wherever we go abroad, there are warnings, for example, must bring an umbrella during the rainy season," Pemayun said.

The Bali tourism office has asked tourism industry players, especially travel agents, to coordinate with the tourism destination area management to ascertain the conditions in an area before alerting tourists.

He asked the tourism industry to obtain weather information from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG), especially regarding safe routes to destination areas.

"Communicate with the areas that will be visited, for example, Tanah Lot and Tabanan. Stakeholders such as the Association of the Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies (ASITA) must have communication (with other stakeholders)," he said.

Many foreign tourists choose to travel without a travel agent, he noted.

For this reason, it is important for tourists to check weather updates via BMKG channels or other media, he added.
