Bali Sees Influx of Visitors Ahead of Long Holiday

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned seaport operator ASDP Indonesia Ferry of Ketapang Branch recorded a hike in passengers heading to Bali ahead of the long holiday, as the Ascension Day of Jesus Christ fell on Thursday, May 9, followed by the joint leave on Friday, May 10.
The ASDP Corporate Secretary Shelvy Arifin said the company served 1,814 passengers and 11,133 vehicles from 8 a.m. Wednesday to 8 a.m. Thursday. The figure comprised motorbikes totaling 2,977 units and 2,676 cars.
Shelvy added that the movement of goods vehicles from Java to Bali also increased compared to normal days. However, she assured that the service remained smoothly under control.
“One of the reasons for the increase in truck traffic is the high logistical needs of tourists in Bali this weekend,” Shelvy said in an official statement on Thursday, May 9.
Additionally, the number of passengers crossing from Java to Sumatra during the same period amounted to 2,384. There were also 8,610 units of vehicles, including 1,150 motorbikes and 2,968 cars.
Shelvy estimated that passengers' movement on the Merak-Bakauheni route would increase further this weekend. She appealed to would-be passengers to purchase tickets only via the Ferizy website, the Ferizy mobile app, or official partners.
