TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An easy way for tourists, both local and foreign, to explore the beauty of Bali comfortably and freely is to rent a motorcycle or scooter. By riding themselves, visitors in Bali can set their own itinerary, giving them complete freedom and control over their holiday experience on the island of the gods. Moreover, the rent is quite cheap even with the cost of fuel added to the budget.

The following are important aspects to note before you decide to rent a scooter in Bali.

Identification

Generally, the renter will ask for original identification as collateral to prevent bad things from happening. For domestic tourists, the main requirement is official identification such as KTP, driver's license, student cards, and/or private or government employee cards, among others.

Foreigners will need to present their identity card, passport, and international driver's license. Having all of these documents complete and up to date will help ensure the identification process runs smoothly and minimize problems when dealing with parties requiring identity verification.

Contact

Motorcycle or scooter rental companies will require your contact information in order to contact you, usually via WhatsApp. If you don't have the app, you may be asked to install it first to facilitate the communication process.

Rules and Requirements

There are terms and conditions for renting a motorcycle or scooter in Bali. The renter must be at least 18 years old and the reservation must be made at least one day in advance. After showing proof of transportation tickets and accommodation reservations, the rent is paid in full in advance.

While renting a scooter, riders are obligated to obey traffic laws. They are not allowed to take the vehicle outside Bali or lend it to anyone else. The renter is fully responsible for any damage or loss of the rented scooter and will be held fully accountable for any legal issues that may arise during the rental period. Most importantly, they must not use scooters and motorcycles for criminal or unlawful activities.

Choose Wisely; Where and What to Rent and for How Much

Quoting gotravelaindonesia.com, the daily rate for motorcycle rental in Bali is really cheap, starting from Rp45,000 or less than US$3 in today's currency. For weekly rentals, the rates are even cheaper, starting from around Rp300,000 or US$19.20. Monthly rentals range from Rp750,000 to Rp800,000 or US$48 to US$51.

The most common brands and models available to rent are Honda Scoopy, Honda Vario, Vespa and Yamaha NMax. Some rental companies offer additional equipment such as helmets, jackets or storage boxes. Make sure you get the equipment you need and check its cleanliness and condition before you leave.

Choose a motorcycle rental company that is trusted and recommended. Do some research online, use a booking app or get recommendations from people you know who have been to Bali.

Contracts, Payments, and Warranties

At the rental station, tourists will be asked to fill out a rental form and sign a contract. Make sure to read and understand all the terms and conditions of the contract before signing it.

The renters usually ask for a full payment in advance with a guarantee or deposit. Make sure to have enough cash or credit ready on hand.

Inspect the Vehicle, Consider the Insurance

Before leaving the rental station, check the condition of the motorcycle thoroughly. Make sure there is no pre-existing damage not listed in the contract. Take photos or videos as evidence if necessary.

Consider purchasing additional insurance for the scooter rented. Some service providers offer this option for additional protection against damage or accidents.

Safety First, Follow Local Traffic Regulations

When riding a motorcycle in Bali, be sure to obey all traffic laws and wear a helmet. Be aware of the local road and traffic conditions that may be different from what you are used to.

Returning the Scooter

Return the scooter at the agreed time and place. Make sure the scooter is in the same condition as when you received it and, if agreed in the contract, refuel it before returning it.
