TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Center (BBMKG) Region III Denpasar warned the public of extreme weather potential in Bali from March 13 to 15, 2024.

"People are urged to remain vigilant about the impact of extreme weather such as strong winds, high waves, floods, landslides, and falling trees," said Head of BBMKG Region III Denpasar Cahyo Nugroho in Denpasar today.

Cahyo explained that the potential for extreme weather was caused by convective clouds caused by the raincloud-forming process in Indonesia, including in the convergence area of Bali.

Based on the BBMKG III Denpasar analysis until March 15, the Bali Sea will face up to 2.5 meters high waves with wind moving from the west-northwest at extreme speeds up to 30 knots per hour.

Waves in the northern Bali Strait are expected to reach 2.5 meters with wind speeds reaching 20 knots per hour. This sea is a long-distance shipping route from Surabaya to Eastern Indonesia.

Meanwhile, waves in the waters of the southern Bali Strait are expected to reach a height of 2.5 to 4 meters. Wind speed is expected to reach 25 knots moving from the west-northwest. Six meters high wave is expected in the waters of southern Bali or the Indian Ocean until March 15 with wind speeds estimated to range up to 50 knots per hour.

BBMKG Denpasar said that wind and sea wave conditions pose a risk to shipping safety. Fishing boat users are urged to be wary of wind speeds of more than 15 knots and wave heights above 1.25 meters. Barge operators are advised to be vigilant of wind speeds of more than 16 knots and wave heights above 1.5 meters. Ferry operators are asked to be aware of wind speeds of more than 21 knots and wave heights above 2.5 meters.
