TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued a weather forecast for Wednesday, January 31, stating that light to heavy rains will occur in most parts of Indonesia.

“Intensifying Asian monsoon activity is one of the main causes of high-intensity rains, particularly in Java and Kalimantan over the past few days. This condition is expected to persist until early February,” the agency’s forecaster Nurul Izzah Fitria explained.

Rain is forecast in most of the regions in Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan regions, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua, with some areas having the potential for heavy rainfall, such as South Sumatra, East Java, Central Java, Central Sulawesi, and Papua.

Meanwhile, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) will experience partly cloudy weather, but Bali has a moderate rainfall potential.

Surface winds in the northern part of Indonesia will generally be from the northeast to the east, while in the southern part, they will generally be from the west, with speeds ranging from 10 to 50 kilometers per hour.

The air temperature in the major cities will be between 19 and 34 degrees Celsius with a humidity level of about 55 to 100 percent.

The BMKG also appealed to all parties to be aware of the potential for high waves of 2.5 to 4 meters, that could potentially occur in the waters of Sangihe and Talaud Islands and the Pacific Ocean north of Halmahera.
