TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Secretary General of the Independent Committee of General Elections Monitoring (KIPP Indonesia) Kaka Suminta said that more than 300,000 voters are missing from the overseas final voter list (DPT). This data shows a big gap compared with the 2019 general elections.

"The huge decline of overseas DPTs is suspicious, with more than 300,000 overseas voters missing from the list," Kaka said in a written statement on Thursday, January 11.

According to Kaka, the total number of overseas final voters in the 2019 general elections amounted to 2,058,191. This year, the number lowered to 1,750,474 voters, meaning a 308,717 decrease. "General Elections Commission or KPU never explained the reason for this overseas voters decline," he said.

Indonesian diaspora abroad are fretting with allegations of missing voters in the overseas data. In Kuala Lumpur alone, it was reported that more than 100,000 voters were unregistered in the 2024 general elections.

Kaka said the decreasing number of overseas voters is confirmed by the hundreds of thousands of voters unregistered by KPU. "This number will surely increase with the addition of overseas voters outside of Kuala Lumpur unregistered in the DPT," he added.

KIPP Indonesia regrets the inaccuracy of the overseas final voter list. This issue will potentially cause Indonesian citizens abroad to lose their right to vote. The committee is urging KPU to evaluate the performance of its staff abroad and the division responsible for the alleged loss of the diaspora's voting rights.

KIPP is also urging the General Elections Supervisory Agency or Bawaslu to handle the case if there is a potential breach of general elections laws.

"Find solutions immediately to ensure the protection of the right to vote by Indonesian citizens abroad, especially those registered in Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia," he concluded.
